One of the greatest challenges when sailing is the effective use of wind power. For this, the key task is to trim the sails as accurately as possible. SailScape, now, is an interactive tool allowing the sailor to use the precision of a digital sail design in order to optimise the boat’s trim on the water. Additionally to real time analysis of the flying shape of the sails SailScape allows to integrate weather, routing and boat parameters into the voyage planning. This design is not only aimed at professional racing sailors but also serves aspiring beginners and amateurs wanting to to improve their sailing skills.<br />This diploma thesis was developed in cooperation with North Sails Germany and supervised by Prof. C. Zwick and Prof. H. Staubach.
