November 1989 die Berliner Mauer fiel, wurde auch die Nationale Volksarmee (NVA) der DDR mit einen Schlag überflüssig. Sie hatte als Machtinstrument der Sozialistischen Einheitspartei (SED) ausgedient. Im Zuge der offiziellen Auflösung der NVA ein knappes Jahr später wurden nur knapp 11.000 Soldaten längerfristig in die Bundeswehr übernommen; hunderttausende ehemalige DDR-Streitkräfte standen hingegen plötzlich auf der Straße. Seit über 25 Jahren sind sie nun Bürger der Bundesrepublik. Doch sind sie auch alle Teil unserer Gesellschaft geworden?
